The Internet giant picks up two young companies that develop technology for the mobile handset space.
BURLINGAME, Calif. -- Google continues to grow its mobile portfolio with the acquisition of two young companies. The first, AdMob, runs an advertising network for mobile devices. The other, Gizmo5, does VoIP telephony from Internet browsers and mobile phones.
Of the two acquisitions, AdMob is likely to receive the lion's share of attention. Google ( GOOG - news - people ) picked up the San Mateo, Calif.-based company for $750 million in stock.
