Partygaming engineer wins Red Hat award

Mr Alex Davies, a 22-year-old IT engineer at gaming firm Partygaming, has won the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) of the Year contest for Europe.

According to Red Hat, Davies, the youngest IT engineer at Partygaming, runs a global web and MySQL cluster. The RHCE training has allowed Davies to identify ways to improve uptime, scalability and performance on his systems, Red Hat advised.

Balaji Sirasani, India

"This year's winners have gone above and beyond the norm to deliver value to their organisations through their proven knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and other Red Hat technologies," said Randy Russell, director of certification for Red Hat.

Google Gets New Mobile Gizmos - 9th November 2009

The Internet giant picks up two young companies that develop technology for the mobile handset space.

BURLINGAME, Calif. -- Google continues to grow its mobile portfolio with the acquisition of two young companies. The first, AdMob, runs an advertising network for mobile devices. The other, Gizmo5, does VoIP telephony from Internet browsers and mobile phones.

Of the two acquisitions, AdMob is likely to receive the lion's share of attention. Google ( GOOG - news - people ) picked up the San Mateo, Calif.-based company for $750 million in stock. That's compared to an estimated $30 million price tag for San Diego-based Gizmo5, according to TechCrunch's Michael Arrington. (Credit: Google News, Techcrunch, AP, Forbes)
